Black pomfret curry or Halwa Fish Fry is a type of Goan fish curry made with black pomfret or halwa fish.
Today with a life full of convenience, it is possible to source ready-made masala powders for everything, right from getting flour mixes to making authentic dish. the cuisine has evolved and it is imperative to know the history and geography of this evolution. Konkani cuisine has a variety of dishes, today we are going to make Halwa Fry (Black Pomfret).

Ingredients
- 6-7 fresh halwa ( Black Pomfret )pieces
- 1-2 tsp green masala ( green chilies, coriander, garlic)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilly powder
- 1 tsp Tamarind Pulp
- 2 tsp rice flour
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
Clean and wash each fish slice. Marinate with turmeric, red chilly, green masala, tamarind & salt. Let it marinate for about an hour.
Heat oil in pan. Coat the pieces in rice flour & shallow fry them. When one side is done, flip it and let it cook on other side. 2 minutes on each side is recommended to get perfect golden brown color.
TIP : remove Sacles, cut the fins, tail and slice fish into pieces. Wash and discard the innards. Drain off any excess water. Season with salt and apply the ground spice paste. leave to marinate.
Serve it hot immediately. It can be relished as starter or accompaniment with other fish curries or dal rice.
